Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the U.S. She has worked as an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency is a website with video and an online blog on the representation of gender roles in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency, a website dedicated to education, which examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture, is her brainchild. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her main focus. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specific harassment of women on the internet and for other groups who are excluded. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university Sarkeesian was interested in the issues surrounding gender equality and the rights of women at an early stage. It was a girl with a dream to develop a series of web videos to examine the how gender is represented in games. But, she was the victim of online harassment. Her determination was not slowed by the harassment, actually, it just reinforced her drive to become an expert on media and feminism. She has won numerous awards to recognize her notable contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit focused on the portrayal of women in pop media and the narratives that surround them.
