Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and a singer who performed for over 40 years. London was a torch performer famous for her soft, melodic vocals and her languid contralto voice she recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955-1969. The track she recorded "Cry me a river" which she released on her debut album, was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her role in Emergency! of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her first professional job was as an actress , while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's acting career lasted for 35 years and began in 1944 with roles in movies. They included roles as the lead female character in a variety of westerns. She also starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. The final album of her studio was released in 1969. She continued to enjoy success in the role of the female main character of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) where she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
